the self-sabotage van

The self-sabotage van circled me a couple of times during my bike workout today. You know the one: white, windowless and driving really slowly as the driver invites you to hop in instead of showing up for yourself.

Today, the driver leaned out the window and said, "You've had a lot of great workouts lately. It's okay if you just don't have it today."

I saw it. I heard it. And I responded. Yes, I have had lots of great workouts lately. Yes, it's okay if I don't have "it" today. AND, no I'm not going to get in that sketchy-ass van. Instead, I'm going to show up, be present and be curious and find out what my body and mind can do at this moment.

And I surprised myself: I had a fantastic workout.

The self-sabotage van shows up when we're at a particularly vulnerable spot--namely, when things are going really well.

When things are awesome, we get nervous. What if this all ends? What if it isn't real? Who am I to have so much gold in my life?

This van isn't exclusive to athletes. It invites business owners to hop inside instead of getting them to tell people about their brownies. It invites daily meditators to climb aboard and skip their practice for the day. It invites early rising humans to watch one more episode of whatever show they are bingeing before going to bed.

It's easy to get in the van. But, when we see the van for what it is, we can say, "No thank you" and then get on with being our sparkly AF selves.

This isn't about pushing through when you need to rest. Rest is critical! When you're tired, rest.

This isn't about ignoring your body. Your body is wisdom. Listen to it above all.

This IS about allowing yourself to be golden, shiny and sparkly AF.

This message is for all humans (but especially those with the 46-29 channel between the G-center and sacral center). Do. Not. Get. In. The. Van.

Instead (I'm about to quote 2014 me)...
"Be big. Be bold.
Be bright and shiny and sparkly.
Stand up and stand out.
Show up in all your brilliance.
You never know who you'll inspire."

I love you. Now, step away from the van and shine like the mother-effing diamond you are.

Love,
Kelsey
