what miracles are you trying to "return to sender?"
We started receiving People Magazine in January. It came addressed to Joseph O. at our address. At first, we were confused. Joseph doesn't live here, nor has he ever lived here as far as we know. We searched our neighborhood directory. No Joseph. We even searched all of Sarasota County. Still no Joseph O.
We wondered if it was a scam. But we were the ones getting a free magazine. What was the "scammer" getting?
What were we going to do with this magazine? I hadn't flipped through a copy of People since the early 2000s when I'd look at the pictures while I was on the elliptical at the gym. I didn't remember it being particularly enlightening. Pete's assumptions about it were even worse.
We gave that first copy to our neighbor who said it would be "good bathroom reading."
We continued supplying our neighbor with bathroom reading material until one day when something nudged me to open the magazine. Guess what: It's filled with uplifting stories about humans (and sometimes animals). I kind of love it. It's the perfect thing to read while eating lunch or riding an emotional wave.
This whole experience with People reminds me of how humans typically respond to gifts from the universe.
At first we say, "this can't be for me." And then we think, "ew, I don't want this," until finally we get curious enough to really look at the gift. That's when we discover miracles.
