Black is beautiful with Isabelle Moses

“The other thing I learned when I moved to Detroit is that there’s not one way to be black. […] Black comes in every shade, every way of being, and there isn’t a WAY to do it.”
- Isabelle Moses

Isabelle Moses and I go way back. When we first met, we were awkward teenagers trying to belong. Now, years after going our separate ways, we’ve reconnected and discovered that we’ve both come home to our true selves. This is Isabelle’s story of remembering who she is. Isabelle works as Director of Talent Development with Faith in Action National Network, the nation’s largest multi-racial faith-based grassroots community organizing network committed to racial and economic justice and building Beloved communities. She has spent the last decade working to shed her mask and show her true self to the world. Her gift for empathy made it possible for her to fit in when she was younger, but also led to her hiding her own self. Regardless of who we are, we never do right by ourselves by hiding our sparkle and covering up our awesome. This is a powerful episode and I hope you enjoy it!

“The version of me that was always there was like clamoring to be heard. And it was starting to outgrow the shell. My elbows got sharp and I got prickly. […] I learned that I had edges and I wanted to discover them.”
- Isabelle Moses

“Being able to be in choice is so much more powerful than just going with the flow.”
- Isabelle Moses

“Black is beautiful.”
