Samantha Livingstone: “That’s the hard that cracks you open to freedom.”

Samantha Livingstone is an Olympic Gold Medalist, transformational speaker and high performance coach—and the mother of four girls. She empowers others to cultivate the courage, resilience and perseverance needed to let go of perfection and other limiting beliefs so they can live their dream. Samantha candidly shares her battles with her inner critic, depression, perfection, PTSD and parenting as a working mother because she believes in the transformative power of story – and the strength that comes from knowing we are not alone. She is on a mission to pay forward all that she’s learned to help others find joy and live free.

A mama of heart warrior and mama of twins, Samantha and her husband, Rob, live in the Berkshires with their four girls.

This conversation is beautiful and vulnerable and brilliant. It’s juicy. It’s brimming with love. We talk about growth, perfection, self-compassion, inner critics and authenticity. Sam shares her experiences as an Olympian, a coach, a parent and a constantly-growing human. She is one of the bravest people I know and I’m so excited to share her wisdom with you. Set some time aside to really listen to this episode. Let the words touch your soul. We made this for you.

Nuggets:

“Gratitude, for me, is the gatekeeper and it allowed me to come closer to being who I am, but compassion really let me in.”

“Without the compassion, I would not have been able to shed the perfectionist shield and without letting go of that shield, I wouldn’t be free to be me.”

“Part of self compassion is embracing humanity and that we make mistakes and that we’re not inherently broken, that our behavior is separate from who we are,”

“Perfection is driven by the fear of what people will think.”

“If you want to beat them, you have to realize that you’re one of them.”

“It’s hard to be bullied by your inner critic. That’s hard. That’s a really hard life. That’s miserable. It’s also hard to sit with the emotion, but that’s the hard that cracks you open to freedom.”
