Steve Disselhorst Owns His Power
“Who is the decision-maker here? I am. You are not.”
- Steve Disselhorst
Sometimes you don’t realize you are owning your power until you find yourself in a new situation, fully empowered and owning your emotions. For Steve Disselhorst, it was a cancer diagnosis and resulting treatment decisions that helped him understand that his power was his to own. But it was navigating the process of becoming a dad that helped him truly own that power. Steve is the father of two wonderful children who are the center of his world. He specializes in personal and professional leadership development and consulting for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and is the author of the memoir Determined To Be Dad: A Journey of Faith, Resilience, and Love. In this episode, we touch on the powerful story of how he first met his adopted son, how meditation has played a defining role in his life, and how he learned to own his emotions despite being raised as a “manly” Midwestern man.
“That’s not what we need now. We need leaders that have hearts, we need leaders that are connected. And they are often not trained that way.”
- Steve Disselhorst
