infusing more fun into your fast

You probably know that I'm a triathlete. (AKA "a psycho")

Triathlon is an endurance sport, which means that racing triathlon is all about pushing your body harder and harder while a part of your brain is strongly suggesting you just freaking sit down.

Ridiculous, right? I know. I love it so much.

A few weeks ago, I went to Milwaukee to compete at Nationals. I raced an Olympic distance triathlon on Saturday and a sprint distance triathlon on Sunday.

I've done the double at Nationals many times. Usually, my plan for the weekend is to GO! But, this year, my coach suggested that I hold back in Saturday's race.

I kept it smooth and went "fun fast," thanking the spectators and volunteers, encouraging the other athletes and saying "hi" to all the spectating dogs. And I went surprisingly fast. Huh.

There's something for all of us here.

Sometimes fun fast is faster than fast fast.

Whatever it is that you're working towards, what if you backed your effort off to 80%? For me, I find that there's a fine line between glee and pain, and it's somewhere around that 80% mark. At 80% there's more glee than pain.

Ask yourself this question: Are you focusing on the finish line or are you being present and saying "hi" to all the dogs and the bunnies and the trees?

Listen, I'm not telling you to slow down. We all have our own natural speed that will likely look too fast or too slow to others. There's a time and a place for "easy easy," a time and a place for "fast fast" and a time and a place for "fun fast." I'm inviting you to experiment with your own version of "fun fast" and share your discoveries with me.

Zumi and Tashi are experts at fun fast, fast fast and easy easy. Fun fast is for playing. Fast fast is for running with the bike. And easy easy is for napping.

I love you.

Love,
Kelsey
