learn from my experience

I'm a lucky runner.

I get to do most of my runs with my husband Pete. I cherish the quality time together, I'm grateful for his pacing help and I love the fact that he carries a bottle of electrolytes for us.

Yes, he's my bottle boy. As I said, I'm one lucky runner.

Alas, Pete isn't always available to join me for every run and when he's not here I have two choices: suffer from dehydration or carry my own damn bottle. I choose the second option, but I'm very particular about the way in which I carry that bottle.

I recently decided that I would invest in a new hydration vest--something that would comfortably carry my bottle while keeping my hands free and my waist free from a bouncing belt. I made this decision with my head, not my body--and this was the first sign that I might be buying a ticket to the strugglebus.

I started researching and reading reviews of hydration vests and was quickly bogged down with a ton of conflicting information. This felt heavy and hard.

I changed tactics. As someone with a 4/6 profile, I'm designed to learn from my people. So, I reached out to my friend Amy. Back when I was on social media (pre-May of 2020), I gawked over Amy's photos of her running in beautiful places with a comfortable-looking hydration vest. Amy gave me some recommendations and I set off again to find the right vest for me. And again, I found myself bogged down by information. Ugh, This was heavy and hard... again.

But "I need a new hydration vest," I told myself. (Oh goodness. 🤦🏾‍♀️ Who put me in charge?)

So off I went, charging through the heavy and hard like a buffalo running through a candy store, and I made a freaking decision.

I felt a tiny bit of satisfaction that I'd finally ordered something (and released the heavy and hard), but I was already laughing at my own ridiculous stubbornness. Still, I thought, maybe I'd get lucky and the perfect hydration vest would arrive on my doorstep with ease.

I did not get lucky. I got exactly what I signed up for--heavy and hard. More specifically, I got a pack that was bound to chafe my armpits. The universe was trying to protect me from chafed armpits (Thank you, universe!) and I bulldozed through it like a know-it-all.

Please learn from my experience. IF IT FEELS HEAVY AND HARD, IT'S NOT THE RIGHT PATH OR THING OR TIME. IF IT FEELS HEAVY AND HARD, IT'S NOT FOR YOU. IF IT FEELS LIKE EASE-FILLED FLOW, ON THE OTHER HAND, KEEP GOING... THAT'S YOUR PATH.

The universe is always guiding us towards ease, joy and abundance. We just need to listen and trust.

I love you.

Love,
Kelsey
